Rosalie Nidiffer Shumate
Apr 12, 2018Born on March 5, 1933 in Eccles, WV, she was the daughter of the late William and Loraine Nidiffer.Mrs. Shumate was the first of two women to enlist in the United States Marine Corp. after World War II. She was a Varsity cheerleader for four years at Trap High School and loved the farm and home she had built while her husband, Bobbie was overseas in 1968. Her house is like walking into a museum with her vast collection of things she had acquired and made. She loved crocheting and sewing. Never did a Holiday go by that she didn’t make something for her Sunday school class.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Howard Nidiffer, Nelson Nidiffer, Inez Nidiffer, James Ray Nidiffer and Lena Mae Hall.She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Bobbie Joe Shumate; sons, Joey Shumate and wife, Heike and Brian Shumate, all of Bolt, WV; half sister, Ruth Nidiffer of Baltimore, MD; six grandchildren, Timmy Shumate, Steven Shumate, BreeAnn Bailey, Brian Hunter Shumate, Brook Shumate and Bailey Shumate; and five great-grandchildren, Emily Shumate, Rosalie Shumate, Domenico Shumate, Bevin Bailey and Brier Bailey.The family will receive friends from 10 am to 12 pm on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 pm in the Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Reverend Dewey Lowe officiating. Entombment will follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.Pallbearers will be family and friends.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bowers Hospice House-Hospice of Southern West Virginia, 464 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV 25801.Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.blueridgefuneralhome.com.
